Food is powerful. Eating a healthy diet and staying well hydrated keeps your energy up and you looking good. What you eat plays a role in what’s going on both inside and outside your body. These five foods can give you glowing skin, fewer wrinkles, and reduce your skin’s sensitivity to sunlight. Eating healthy looks good on you!

Dark Chocolate

Not only is cocoa a sweet treat but it can also help keep your skin firm and smooth. Flavonols, the antioxidants found in cocoa, help your skin fight damage from sunlight and increase blood flow to give you a healthy glow. Look for chocolate that has at least 70% cocoa to make sure your treat does more than simply satisfy the sweet tooth. Indulge on a few squares each day for health looking skin, guilt free!

bell pepper (1)

Green and Yellow Bell Peppers

It’s time to start adding more green and yellow bell peppers into your diet, stat! The antioxidants that give these veggies their colorful hue also help prevent your skin from being too sensitivity to the sun. They can help fight wrinkles too. Plus, bell peppers are a great source of fiber and vitamin C, which may help keep your cholesterol levels in check. Add fresh or frozen bell peppers to stir fry, pasta, egg scrambles, or tossed on salads for a burst of flavor and nutrition.

kiwi fruit

I know it’s a pain to peel kiwi which is why it’s probably not everyone’s favorite fruit, but kiwifruit is one of the best sources of vitamin C on the planet. Vitamin C has so many health benefits from fighting colds to keeping your skin looking young and radiant. One fruit is just 40 calories and boosts 2 grams of fiber (that’s 8% of your total daily needs). Reach for kiwifruit as a healthy low calorie snack, cereal topper, or smoothie add-in.

Walnuts are a rich source of omega-3 fatty acids (aka the good fats) and protein. These healthy fats help keep your skin firm and smooth by locking in moisture and fight inflammation (say “good-bye!” to breakouts). Walnuts also make a great post-workout recovery snack paired with a piece of fruit – portable and balanced. I love walnuts on everything from an oatmeal or salad topping or with a few dark chocolate chips for an indulgent snack.

Greek yogurt

Greek Yogurt

The protein in dairy may actually help your skin become firmer and reduce wrinkles. Greek yogurt is a great choice because it has twice the protein content of plain yogurt. Greek yogurt is also a great source of calcium and probiotics, which will make your gut happy. I recommend adding more Greek yogurt in your meals as the base for a healthy smoothie, the foundation of a fruit parfait, or it’s dang tasty all on it’s own!
