So, the GMO debate is back front and center.

GMOs, or genetically modified organisms, have been a hotly debated topic for years among consumers, nutrition experts, and the food industry. They did not predict the change would do nothing to slow the rates of heart disease, obesity, and type 2 diabetes in our country. Ironically, the prevalence of these problems continued to climb! read more

Overall, the guidelines focus less on individual nutrients and superfoods and more on a healthy balanced that includes whole foods from all food groups. It’s the overall eating pattern that matters and no one part is more important than the others. Of course, we can’t forget about physical activity most days of the week either! On the ninth day of ShopWell we’re all about prevention!

Roughly 68 million Americans have prediabetes … that’s roughly 1 in 3 adults. And many people are undiagnosed. Prediabetes means you have the change to make lifestyle changes that will improve your health and prevent you from developing a chronic disease (diabetes). The changes seem relatively simple – lose weight and be physically active. Life is busy and it can be hard to follow a healthy diet and fit in the recommended amount of exercise. ShopWell can help you manage prediabetes by helping you understand what you’re buying and discover foods that are a better fit for you and your health goals. Half the battle to preventing diabetes is changing your diet to support weight loss. read more
